HSBC runs 'Global India' as a named private-banking franchise with a single head — Gautam Anand, appointed end-April 2026, reporting jointly to the head of Private Banking for South Asia and the head of Private Banking for the MENAT region — covering Indian clients across India and hub markets including Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK and the UAE. The model pairs a relaunched onshore India Global Private Banking business (July 2023, USD 2m+ investable assets) with dedicated Global India desks in Singapore and the Middle East, an expanding India branch network positioned as touchpoints for 'non-resident clients', and GIFT City dollar-denominated products for NRIs. In the 2026 RBI concessional swap window it became the single largest mobiliser of FCNR(B) deposits of any lender in India.
Why it matters
HSBC is the only global bank pairing a relaunched onshore India private bank with a single-accountable diaspora franchise: 'Global India' has one named head whose joint reporting line to South Asia and MENAT private banking hard-wires the India–Gulf corridor into the org chart. The 2026 FCNR window proved the machine works — HSBC out-mobilised SBI and ICICI for NRI dollars on their home turf, going from $120 million to $6.26 billion in FCNR(B) deposits in eight weeks.
